Richmond Neighborhood Naturalistic Garden

This property is divided into three main spaces or rooms. The sunny front yard has long blooming flowers and grasses making a stylized meadow. The North side yard incorporates more woodland style plants and shrubs and small trees. Behind the fence is an expanse of eco-lawn for soccer play surrounded by beautiful crape myrtle trees and narrow junipers underplanted with hydrangeas and grasses.

After determining the clients goals we created a full new design and project plan for the oversized corner lot landscape. Removal of unwanted plant materials, concrete footings throughout the property, stands of bamboo, a large holly tree, an old fence, a cellar door, a broken-down koi pond, and more were our first tasks.

We used sheet mulching for the large parking strip and re-graded the front, side, and backyard using a soil blend and an organic mulch. A flagstone path was installed, using materials on site, with a keyhole loop. We added boulders, also on site from the old water feature, to create a xeric planting bed inside the keyhole.

A crushed gravel path leads you from the fence gate to the back porch along the eco lawn area used for ball play. Two rain gardens were installed in the front and one in the back keeping all rain water on site and in the garden. A beautiful clear cedar fence was installed for privacy in the back.
